About us - Proprietors
The current proprietors Barbara and Giovanni Renna took over Brook Lodge in August 1997 building on its already excellent reputation by using their vast experience in the hospitality industry.
Giovanni first came to the UK in 1973 soon after completing the Hotel School in Bari, Italy. He started his career in London in the Front Office of the Kennedy Hotel (where he met Barbara) and May Fair Hotel before joining Hilton International at the newly open Kensigton Hilton. He then moved to the Royal Tehran Hilton where took charge of training more than 1,000 employees.
After training in food and beverage at the London Hilton he was transferred to the Kuwait Hilton as an assistant food and beverage manager and less than a year later he arrived at the Stratford-upon-Avon Hilton in the same capacity. He became food and beverage manager and enjoyed a period that was to be the golden era of the hotel. However the success enjoyed during that period resulted in its subsequent sale. This convinced Giovanni to move with his family and try the Italian adventure. He joined Costa Smeralda Hotels in Sardinia, Italy (at the time owned by the Aga Khan) as Deputy Manager in one of the most exclusive hotels in the world: the Cala di Volpe. Within 6 months he was appointed manager of the Cervo Hotel in Porto Cervo where many of the international set meet in the summer.
A couple of years later, following the acquisition by Costa Smeralda Hotels of the Portorotondo operation (another famous village best known among the Italian rich and famous) Giovanni was put in charge of the charming and very exclusive hotel (the Sporting, next to which Mr. Berlusconi built his summer retreat) and a string of restaurants and cafés.
Due to family commitments Giovanni and his family moved, and by sheer coincidence back to his native Bari where he managed the best known hotel (the Palace). After managing and opening two more hotels the decision was made to move back to Stratford where they took over Brook Lodge and achieved their ambition to run their own business.
"We recently stayed at Brook Lodge for a couple of days and were very impressed with the accommodation. Our room was lovely, spotlessly clean and nice and quiet. Barbara and Giovanni were very welcoming and helpful in suggesting places to visit. We would definately stay there again and would not hesitate in recommending Brook Lodge to our friends and family"

I booked a stay of one night with two friends initially. We arrived an hour early, not knowing what to expect. Giovanni, the owner, let us book in anyway and was really friendly, and even upgraded us to a suite for no extra cost! It was only a one mile walk up the straight road into the town centre (past Morrisons and the train station if you're interested). I was so impressed that I booked again four days later and took my 4 year old son with me! We got a fab welcome when we arrived...Anne Hathaway's cottage is a 10 minute walk across the road and there's a great little kids' park next to it for the evening if you want... The next morning, we had a lovely breakfast, catered just the way we asked for it. My son even had little chicken egg warmers on his boiled eggs and Barbara made him toast soldiers to go with it. I had such a perfect stay (both times) at Brook Lodge and will definitely go back! I can't imagine what anyone would be looking for in order to fault this place....?!
